‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ TV Series: Joss Whedon Talks About the Pilot, Cobie Smulders’ Involvement

Seeing as the ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.‘ TV series pilot has officially wrapped production, it may be a while yet before ABC or Marvel release any official photos or footage from the Joss Whedon-directed pilot. And though ABC has yet to issue an official pickup for the Marvel-produced ‘Avengers’ continuation, fans are no doubt eagerly anticipating seeing some of their favorite movie characters on the small screen, but what does Joss Whedon himself have to say? The director issues new comments onf the ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ TV series, including whether or not we’ll see Cobie Smulders’ Maria Hill inside!
Fans are chomping at the bit for new details of the ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ TV series, and though the pilot has been kept heavily under wraps, Joss Whedon is not one to disappoint. The ‘Avengers 2‘ director spoke to TVLine of the upcoming ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ TV series, confirming its feel as “definitely a Marvel show,” and offering a bit of clarity on what fans can expect in terms of established characters.
Iâm excited about the show because itâs a very hopeful show. Itâs not about murder, and itâs not about crime, and itâs not people looking into their own belly buttons. Itâs about people who are trying to help each other, and thatâs one of the things I loved about comic books. They had costumes and the villains were cool [but] they stood for something, and I like doing a show that does that.
Weâre trying very hard to be true to [Marvel's] ethos and also to the structure of their universe, so it is definitely a Marvel show.
Whedon previewed that fans shouldn’t necessarily expect a ton of movie characters to surface, as âRight now, I want to involve people in the characters that weâve created for the show, and then weâll worry about [the other stuff].â In particular, regardless of ‘How I Met Your Mother‘ star Cobie Smulders’ optimistic comments about a ninth ‘HIMYM’ season not interfering with potential ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ appearances, Whedon corrected that the star’s schedule didn’t permit much time, though âif we can get a hold of her anytime, we will.â
Marvelâs âS.H.I.E.L.D.â TV series features a cast that includes Clark Greggâs resurrected Agent Phil Coulson, as well as âERâ vet Ming-Na, Chloe Bennet, Brett Dalton, Elizabeth Henstridge and Iain De Caestecker as the other agents of the team. Nick Fury himself, Samuel L. Jackson recently stated that he expected to be involved in some small capacity, if only in the pilot.
Well, what say you? Do you think ABC’s Joss Whedon-helmed ‘SHIELD’ TV series will prove every bit as successful as its movie counterparts? What would you like to see from the series, if ABC picks up the pilot?
