The Maine Department of Education has released the grades for Maine public schools. They are based on math and reading proficiency and student growth and graduation rates. Also, the new grading system is on an A to F scale with 50 schools receiving an A grade. The majority of schools (267) were graded with a C while 65 received F grades.

The Maine Education Association has criticized the new system that the LePage administration implemented last year, saying it uses old data and does not take into account English Language Learners. The administration says the scale is easier for parents to understand.

Cony High School in Augusta and Erskine Acemy in South China were given B's, while Gardiner, Waterville and Winslow High Schools were both graded with C's. Lewiston and Edward Little received D's.
