Selena Gomez is going through a bit of a transitional time: she's ditched kid-friendly fare for edgy indie movies like 'Spring Breakers,' she and Justin Bieber are still on the outs (for now, anyway) -- and she revealed at her UNICEF benefit show that her music is definitely going to reflect the more mature side of her ... and that it's coming soon!

When asked when we can expect a new song from Sel, she told MTV News, "March hopefully. I'm gonna say that because that's what I'm gonna make sure happens." Smart girl!

Gomez admitted she was nervous that she'd "forget everything" at the performance on Saturday night (Jan. 19) -- her first in New York City, if you can believe it!

As for her new material? Gomez wouldn't admit outright that her split from the "J" half of Jelena was a big factor in her new album's development, but she did hint at it. To quote the Beastie Boys, she's crafty!

"Through 'Spring Breakers' and experiencing so much last year it will be interesting to kind of have my fans know everything I went through, through music," she said.

"I think for me it was actually interesting to see that towards the middle of me recording my record, a big turn happened to me and it was incredible to see how I applied that to music because I've never done that before and it's great," Gomez gushed. "I think the older I'm getting the more I'm just kind of like ... I'm cool to share my side of the stories as much as I can, so I'm having a lot of fun." Learning from Taylor Swift, we see!

Check out the look in Sel's eye when she talks about having fun "personally and professionally," as well as when she speaks about the "big turn." Do we sense some Bieber shade?!
