It had been a long time since I'd spoken to Angus King. He's an easy guy to talk with. Very likable and down-to-Earth. When I saw his staff person, Elizabeth MacTaggert, at the Kennebec Valley Chamber's Business After Hours, I was surprised. I was more surprised when I saw Senator King next to her!

After being introduced, he spoke for a few minutes about the recent budget crisis in Washington that shut the government down. After that, he stepped back and talked with anyone who wanted to bend his ear.

When it was my turn to speak (I was the event's emcee), I noted how I had seen him on both left-leaning MSNBC and right-leaning Fox News last week. I pointed out how both networks treated him with the utmost respect. Rarely do you see someone who can work both networks but he is the king of bi-partisanship, in my humble opinion, and sounds very presidential when he speaks. Yes, I told him that. He seemed to want nothing to do with the thought of running for president but we'll see.

Finally, I got to have my picture taken with him again. The first time, I looked like I was picking a wedgie. This time, I was careful to make sure both hands were in front of me and not in my pocket.

It sure was great to see Angus again. When he left we shook hands. He invited me to get him on the phone some morning if we wanted to chat. Said he walks to work at the capital every day and he could talk with us then. As he walked out the door, he said, "see ya later, buddy!"

That's my kinda guy!
