SNL: ‘The Sopranos’ Go Back to High School

There are few shows that beg for your eye rolls more than The CW’s ‘The Carrie Diaries,’ a non-canonical prequel to ‘Sex and the City’ that follows a young Carrie Bradshaw as a student in the ’80s. Naturally, the best way for SNL to take that show on is to view it through the lens of another classic HBO show. And that brings us to the sketch embedded below, titled ‘Sopranos High.’
The skit takes the form of a preview for a ‘Sopranos‘ prequel series, following Tony and his gang as they learn about life, love and the importance of therapy while they navigate high school during the early ’80s. Really, the sketch is an excuse to riff on ‘The Carrie Diaries’ while letting various cast members do passable-to-great impressions while wearing obnoxious outfits. Not all of it works, but ‘Sopranos’ fans will certainly chuckle once or twice.
Check out the video below. As always, Bill Hader gets the points for best impersonation.
