‘Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive’ May 10th

‘Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive’ takes place in central Maine and just about everywhere (May 10) this Saturday. Every second Saturday in May, letter carriers across America collect non-perishable item in the ‘Stamp Out Hunger National Food Drive’, the largest one-day food drive in the nation. The best part, you really are helping your community because food donated in a certain community will stay in that community! For example, the donation next to my mail box in Augusta will go to the Augusta Food Bank.

Carriers collect non-perishable food donations left by mailboxes and in post offices and deliver them to local community food banks, pantries and shelters. So, to help…it is easy. Just leave the non-perishable items next to your mailbox before your letter carrier delivers mail. The carrier will do the rest. If you can put them in a bag it makes it easier for the letter carriers to ‘grab and go’ with your donation. The food is sorted, and delivered to an area food bank or pantry, where it is available for needy families.

More than 50 million people face hunger every day in America, including nearly 17 million children. This drive is one way you can help those in your own city or town who need help.
