There is a report of a standoff on Spruce Street in Winthrop Monday afternoon (03/23/15).

The intersection of Rt. 133 and High Street is blocked.

Winthrop schools are in lock-down according to the school department.

Winthrop schools are asking parents to pick up students who walk or take a bus downtown.

Monday (03/23/15 - 4pm) Winthrop Police say the standoff is over and say the subject is dead but wouldn't give any more details.

Monday (03/23/15 - 6:30 pm) The perpetrator has been identified as Roland Tripp, 49. The situation began at about 8 am, when a man's wife and child went to the police station to report a domestic violence threat.

Police shortly after being notified of the problem they showed up at the Spruce St. home and tried to convince Tripp to come out and talk. Instead, Tripp didn't surrender to police. As the day wore on, police in the end found Tripp dead in his home.
