‘Star Wars’ Actor Richard LeParmentier Dead at 66

LucasFilm

Richard LeParmentier, who was a key actor in one of the most famous ‘Star Wars‘ scenes of all time, has passed away at 66. Even if you don’t know his name, you’ll surely know him as the Imperial Admiral whose “lack of faith” Darth Vader finds disturbing.

Yep, you know the scene. During a villainous meeting on the fully operational Death Star, LeParmentier’s Admiral Motti mocks Vader’s “sad devotion to that ancient Jedi religion” and gets force choked for his troubles. It’s a tiny role, but it’s a tiny role in a scene that’s fondly remembered and quoted by millions of fans on a regular basis.

According to TMZ, the exact circumstances of his death, which occurred while he was visiting his children in Texas, are unknown at this time. Stay tuned for more details as they become available.

LeParmentier’s Hollywood career was kickstarted by a small role in 1975′s ‘Rollerball.’ His post-’Star Wars’ career includes roles in ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit‘ and ‘Superman 2′ (he ended up marrying Sara Douglas, who played the Superman villain Ursa). Although he moved away from acting in later years, he continued to work as a screenwriter, working in both film and television.
