As often as a seventh Star Wars movie seemed like a lost hope, TV fans have wondered if the franchise would ever make good on a live-action TV series to further the brand. Time and time again, rumors have spread, while the latest sees ABC bosses acknowledging they’d love to host one, and still talk to Lucasfilm about the possibility.

The TCA press tour panel offered reporters a chance to speak with new ABC boss Channing Dungey for a fresh take on the possibility of a new live-action Star Wars TV series. It’s known that the possibilities have been floated before, with George Lucas once purporting to have written dozens of scripts, but Dungey at least sees it as an ongoing discussion (via Entertainment Weekly):

Ohh, as a fan, I would absolutely love to say ‘yes.’ The conversations with Lucas, we have had conversations with them and will continue to have conversations with them. I think it would be wonderful if we could find a way to extend that brand into our programming. […]

It’s all a little bit hush-hush. That company exists under a big shroud of secrecy. If you feel Marvel’s secretive, [Lucasfilm] takes it to a whole other level … [Talks] are ongoing. We don’t have an official timeline yet.

Past reports of a live-action Star Wars TV series (most commonly titled Star Wars: Underworld) were seemingly set on Coruscant between trilogies, while another recent report suggested the project might have humanized Emperor Palpatine in some manner.

In any case, the newer Star Wars films seem unilaterally to have taken precedence, but what type of series might fit best at ABC?
