If you want to take a road trip North of the border this Summer, you need to check out New Brunswick's Kings Landing.

According to Wikipedia, Kings Landing is a living history museum that shows what life was like for people living in a 19th or early 20th century New Brunswick village.  Basically, it is a real life version of "Anne of Green Gables".

Attractions include: schools, churches, a sawmill, several houses, a general store, and print shop.  If you come at the right time, you'll have a chance to sample some food (I got to try pancakes last time I was there).  They also do special event days, like Canadian Thanksgiving (Columbus Day in the United States).

From Central Maine, it is just under a 4 hour drive.  My recommendation would be to make your visit to Kings Landing part of a visit to Fredericton, NB and the Mactaquac Powerplant.
