It took a while, but Summit Natural Gas has received approval from the Maine Public Utilities Commission to start is pipeline. Summit is one of two distributors who wanted to be the one to supply natural gas to business and residential customers in the Kennebec Valley. Now that they have PUC approval, they are planning a four-year project of pipeline infrastructure in the Kennebec Valley.

Before the end of the year, Summit hopes to have completed its core, 67-mile steel pipeline through 12 communities from Richmond to Madison. That pipeline will hook into the 684-mile pipeline in Windsor. Summit will be putting in distribution lines off the main pipeline to serve residential and business customers. As soon as the weather is ok and Summit has the permits they will get to work.
