Henry Cavill Hints Superman May Make an Appearance in ‘Wonder Woman’

We know that Ben Affleck’s Batman will make an appearance in this August’s Suicide Squad. Both Affleck and his stunt double were seen on set in a scene where Batman is chasing down The Joker and Harley Quinn. But what about Superman? Henry Cavill says he will not be making an appearance in Suicide Squad, but left the window open for a potential appearance in another upcoming Justice League spinoff.

Cavill spoke to Brazilian magazine Superinteressante (via Heroic Hollywood) and was very upfront about his absence from Suicide Squad saying point blank, “Not in Suicide Squad.” His answer when asked about Wonder Woman was quite different though. “In Wonder Woman, I haven’t heard anything yet, but…watch that space.”

Wonder Woman is currently filming in London and Cavill could theoretically be shooting something as soon as his press obligations for Batman vs. Superman come to an end. He gave a straightforward “no” to the Suicide Squad questions, but “watch that space” would seem to indicate that Cavill knows a little more than he’s letting on.

Frankly, Superman turning up in Suicide Squad doesn’t make much sense, but considering that both Superman and Wonder Woman are superhumans, it makes more sense to pair them up. The action in Wonder Woman is split between two time periods: WWI and the events directly preceding Batman vs. Superman (think of this as something of a prequel to that movie). There have also been rumors of Affleck’s involvement in the Wonder Woman film (Bruce Wayne and Diana seem to be chummy in the Batman vs. Superman trailers, even if he’s not yet fully aware of her powers), though that has yet to be confirmed.

With Warner Bros. and DC desperately trying to catch up to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they’ll need help from each of their superheroes to cameo in each others’ films, not unlike the Marvel model. As it stands, Aquaman, The Flash and Cyborg are all set for cameos in Batman vs. Superman to help launch Justice League, which begins filming next month.
