His name was Sylvester Cobbs but everyone knew him as Cobby and everyone who has lived in or around Augusta for any amount of time knew him by sight if not by name. He was a true fixture. A legend. A wonderful spirit who attended public events taking pictures and capturing the local world in which he lived on film
Thanks to Senator Roger Katz, 92 Moose was able to get our listeners the scoop on this kid generated idea to come up with a Maine state dog! We currently don't have one so any suggestions will be considered.....
What a beautiful morning for a walk, huh? And to walk for a good cause even better. This morning I helped in launching the first Augusta 'Make A Wish' walk in some time. It was done in years past, but fizzled away for some reason but the walk has been re-organized, re-energized and is happening again.
Back in 2011, I took my first walk on the Augusta Trail system in the Bond Brook Recreation Area. A great place but the wrong time of year. This story is from a late December day...
This morning, Senator Katz said he has to make a decision. How should he vote as a legislator? To allow us to decide the question about the legalization of marijuana (for all purposes) or not. In other words, should the final decision be put in voters' hands?
Ashley Harriman stopped in to talk with us about something near and dear to her heart, the Miles for Mills fundraiser coming up on Memorial Day. Ashley, a junior at Maine Maritime Academy, is cousin to Travis' wife, Kelsey. The horrible incident which was to change the Mills family's life forever happened just a little over a year ago.
Matt is a great kid. He's 14, has a great attitude, goes to St. Michael School and, oh yeah, he needs a new heart. He is on a waiting list and will, eventually, receive one from a donor. Until then, he and his family live day to day, waiting and hoping for that call...
As I get older more and more of my youth disappears either by a bulldozer, by failure over time or just due to a revamp. At any rate a place in Halifax we used go after the other bars closed has now closed for good. The Palace also known as 'The New Palace' has closed I guess because of changing times and demographics. It was such an institution in Halifax The Barenaked Ladies referenced the bar in a song, 'Hello City.' Anyway the point of this story is not so much to reminisce about an old bar as it is to think back at our young days or in this case wasted youth.
