With only 11 confirmed cases in 19 years, this rare virus was just confirmed in Southern Maine. It doesn't always have symptoms and can cause severe disease.

The Lewiston-Auburn area had 596 reported cases of sexually transmitted diseases per 100,000 people. That ranks the area as the highest percentage of STDs among Maine's metro areas. This is according to a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report for 2013.
