Maine's Blue Ribbon classic has wrapped for another year, and we're still full of fair food! Here are some of the sights and sounds from the fair this year.
It's kind of hard to believe that the start of fair season in Maine is just about a month away! We'll blame the fact that winter held on so long, and that spring was so short, for that one!
Here's the 2018 list of (mostly) Central Maine fairs from Maine...
"To be a program director at a major market radio station."
That's the quote from The Quill, Gardiner High School's yearbook, that appears under my photo. Yup, my dream was to go run a radio station in Boston, New York or some such place. I didn't chase the dream. I made my dream happen here in Maine, a place I love and where I'm most comfortable.
I'm so lucky to have my family close by me. I'm also lucky we're not dysfunctional. We love each other and get along wonderfully. Sometimes I wish we could spend more times like we did on this day of apple picking. Because we don't do family activities of this magnitude too often, though, they seem all the more sweet.
One things for sure...everything we had as a family is kicked up a notch or two
The Litchfield Fair is a central Maine favorite and runs (Sept 5 - Sept 7) through Sunday. We're happy to be back again this year to help judge the apple pie baking contest.
Ben Cohen of Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream fame was at the Common Ground Fair in Unity this weekend with his Amend-O-Matic machine which stamps messages on currency that take a hard swipe money in politics!
Once Mac Dickson started saying that fair season means the summer is ending, that's all I can think of. I remember though, not too many years ago, the Pittston Fair happened in late June, right after summer vacation started. Boy, summer must have seemed short to him back then!
Ted and Muriel Smith have overseen the Litchfield Fair Apple Pie Contest for the last time and they will be missed! Although Ted says they will still be involved somewhat with the fair, it will be on a much smaller scale. I can honestly say, they are a true pleasure to work with every year and I want to thank them, personally and, on behalf of our whole crew, for inviting us year after year.
