Maybe you were affected, I know we were at work. Time Warner Internet was down in the Augusta area for a large chunk of the day. Some lost phone service as well but all was returned to normal around 3pm. The reason for the outage was a faulty router.
To be fair, the proposals we talked about weren't all strange but they were a little out of the ordinary and those are the types of things we'll talk about early on Monday mornings with Senator Katz of Augusta....
Today was all about cars. I was looking at the license plate on my wife’s car and saw that it had expired last month, February. I was surprised that I let it lapse. Okay, I knew but that was my prepared statement for cops if I got pulled over. All it took was a trip to Auburn city hall and paid $173 and I was good to go with a neon orange sticker for ’03 Saab. I have been asked this probably 10 times at different places. "Do you have an SR 22?"
Funny to think I know where I was four years ago tonight. I was at the New Kids on the Block concert, with my sister in-law Jessica, at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland.
I want to take a moment tell a story about a two and a half year old girl, Aubrey Renee Coburn. She is undergoing quite an ordeal. Aubrey was born on August 9, 2010 with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. At just three days of age she had her first open heart surgery. Then just a few short months later, another heart surgery. Now, the sweet girl needs a third this coming spring.
I'm not sure when this all started, but I found a really cool nook of retailing in Lewiston-Auburn. It's an indoor flea market with dozens and dozens of booths, friendly people and way cool merchandise.
The kids were home from school today and neither Lynn nor I wanted to cook so we decided to go out. In the neighborhood there is a seafood diner; Mac’s Downeast Seafood and up to this point hadn’t gone. Granted we just moved nine months ago but still had never been in.
At about 3 pm this afternoon, March 21, a fire broke out at 146 Northern Avenue Augusta. It was a four unit apartment complex. One resident was taken to the hospital to be checked out. The building, built in 1928, is a loss.
Maine Congresswoman Chellie Pingree has joined the effort to pass a bill that would allow states to set marijuana policies without federal interference. The law would end marijuana prohibition and start regulating marijuana like alcohol at the federal level.
Hopefully we are now having the last measurable snowstorm of the 2012-2013 winter season. As annoying as it is to shovel and how inconvenient this weather is, it could be a lot worse. I think after this season we need to thank the plow drivers a little for keeping the roads clear. Snow plow drivers both contracted and those who work for the Department of Transportation (D.O.T.)
