McCarthy would star as the villain in Disney’s next live-action remake of an animated classic

Melissa McCarthy won an Emmy this year for outstanding guest actress in a comedy series, and she couldn’t have done it without a major assist from Sean Spicer, the former White House Press Secretary for President Donald Trump. McCarthy spoofed Spicer and his bizarrely confrontational press briefings on last season of Saturday Night Live. McCarthy’s Spicer was an inferno of rage, insults, and rolling podiums. It was an incredible performance; by far, the biggest downside of Spicer’s resignation in July was the fact that McCarthy wouldn’t get to play ol’ Spicey more on this fall’s season of SNL.

This past weekend saw perhaps the culmination of Melissa McCarthy’s SNL Sean Spicer impression, as the real “Spicey” may not by Press Secretary by fall. Perhaps an even greater sign of McCarthy capturing lightning in a bottle; behind-the-scenes reports suggest Beck Bennett was first in line for the job.

Ol’ Spicey gave us a taste of Melissa McCarthy’s SNL return this weekend (from another coast at that), presumably warming up for the comic actress’ full-fledged return in May. Don’t expect Sean Spicer to actually weigh in on the episode, as the White House Press Secretary claims not to watch any of the show (his boss would probably get mad).

It made sense of SNL to hire Melissa McCarthy for a fifth hosting gig, rather than rely on a weekly Sean Spicer impression. Nonetheless, our first live coast-to-coast SNL show managed to coax McCarthy’s Spicer out for Easter, and with an intriguing twist at that.

'I feel like my dad and Sean Spicer had a baby, and it’s me,' McCarthy joked.

McCarthy and Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson will join the five-timers club with their upcoming gigs, while Chris Pine will lose his 'SNL' host virginity.

With Paul Feig at the helm and a quartet of hilarious women who are great at improvising, it’s not surprising that the upcoming Blu-ray and DVD release of the Ghostbusters reboot is packed with additional scenes, outtakes, deleted scenes, gag reels and — as many fans hoped — an extended cut of the film. We won’t have a chance to see any of these bonus materials until October, but it should be interesting for those who felt as though Feig’s theatrical version may have been a little too safe.
