Getting to midnight on New Year's Eve is the easy part. Seeing how long you can make it after that is tougher than finding elbow room in Times Square a minute before the ball drops.

If you're already beating yourself up, you may as well stop ... and enjoy these memes. We hope they will either motivate, entertain, or console you, depending on their nature.

With the new year comes attempts at changing our lives for the better. You know the routine, resolutions, goals. You lay them out with good intentions and sometimes succeed and sometimes you don't. In between success and failure is where most of us live. I'm still not smoking and almost not still chewing the nicotine gum.

Time Square and the ball drop have nothin’ on Eastport’s The Great Sardine & Maple Leaf Drop. Yes, it sound like just what it is, they drop a sardine and a maple leaf.  Since Easport is on line between Maine and Canada they celebrate twice.  At 11pm eastern (midnight Atlantic time) they drop a 4-foot red plywood maple leaf,  then at midnight they drop the sardine.

Gov. LePage is urging motorists in Maine to drive safely to keep roads safe as New Year's Eve is upon us. Gov. LePage said 163 people have died on Maine roads this year, and that too many of those deaths were caused by distracted or drunken drivers.

As the year closes and a new one starts we do two things generally, we look back to what happened the past year and we look ahead to the next. Maybe we set resolutions or goals and we hope others do better as well. How about 2012? Yes we made it through, apocalypse and all.

There are only a few days left until New Years Eve. What are your plans? I know mine. It is the one night a year I can get away with acting like a 21 year old within reason. We're going to make a pretty huge statement right now ladies and gents, so brace yourselves: photobombing is hands down the best way to capture any sort of moment. Ruining a picture with that unexpectedly hilarious face or the addition of a random stranger in a photo simply adds that extra oomph needed to bring a picture to the next level. Plus, it's just funny stuff.
