I am not writing this to tell you how to vote by any means, but to say how important this is to you if you live in Auburn (or any other town for that matter.) Tomorrow, Auburn votes on the school budget. The city is looking for a 6.9% increase over last year to make the budget for the 2013-2014 school year $38.4 million. The state is supplying a little over $760,000, but it would mean an increase in property taxes.
Marisa Weinstein, music teacher at Warsaw Middle School in Pittsfield was surprised at a school assembly Tuesday, April 9. She was named the Maine Music Educators Association 'Educator of the Year.'
David Fabrizio, the principal at Ipswich Middle School (Massachusetts) is being criticized for canceling 'Honors Night' at the school. He told MyFoxBoston.com that the evening could be "devastating to a child who has worked extremely hard in a difficult class but who, despite growth, has not been able to maintain a high grade-point average."

School is cancelled and I can still see the driveway. The Auburn School Department must have their reasons to cancel school today but it seems as though they could have gone ahead with a school day. At the risk of being cliche, it does seem we've gotten softer over the years in cancelling school.
School for thousands of public school students is about to get quite a bit longer. Five states will add at least 300 hours of learning time to the calendar in some schools starting in 2013. Colorado, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York and Tennessee will take part in the test.
I assume other elementary schools do the same or something similar. At my son Justin's school, Park Avenue Elementary in Auburn, basically every other Wednesday, has an assembly open to the parents, grandparents and guardians called, "Wednesday Morning Sing."
