‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ Might Send ‘Jack Ryan’ into 2014

Martin Scorsese‘s ‘The Wolf of Wall Street,’ which stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Matthew McConaughey and Jonah Hill, was looking to be one of the most interesting films of 2013. But as of right now, it’s not finished, in all likelihood will not be ready for its originally announced November 15 release date, and may take ‘Jack Ryan”s release date and bump that film into 2014.

This news comes from The Hollywood Reporter, and the important thing to note is that they’re suggesting there’s no way the film will be ready in seven weeks, which means the film could move to the end of the year or into 2014 instead. Right now Scorsese’s cut of the film supposedly runs three hours, and that means they’ll want to shave at least thirty minutes from the film. It’s worth noting that Paramount, Scorsese and DiCaprio had a great success with the February-released ‘Shutter Island’ in 2010, but that film was completely ignored by Oscars, so there is precedent for an early year release (but an obvious downside).

Paramount is weighing their options on what to do, and if the film is ready, they’re suggesting bumping ‘Ryan’ — which stars Chris Pine, was directed by Kenneth Branagh and is still dated for December 25 — to January 14. Considering the studio has yet to release a trailer for the movie, perhaps that was on the table all along. This also points out that Paramount has a very busy end of the year as ‘Anchorman 2‘ is slated for December 20, while both ‘Ryan’ and ‘Labor Day‘ are scheduled for five days later, though the latter will be in limited release. As for ‘The Wolf of Wall Street,’ we’ll keep you posted.
