A 5-year-old girl was shot and then died in Scarborough. According to WCSH she was taken to a hospital where she later died.  No arrests have been made and police are investigating. Several other people were inside the home but no one else was hurt.

The Colonial Theater in Augusta has received a large donations from Kennebec Savings Bank of $100,000 for the effort to pay for the structural repair of the auditorium. According to WABI a large hold in the roof has been repaired and this donation will help with getting things fixed on the overall $8M dollar restoration project.

Gas prices have gone up slightly in northern New England. The latest survey from GasBuddy shows average retail gasoline prices in Vermont rose 1.3 1.7 cents per gallon in last week, averaging $2.36 per gallon on Sunday. In Maine, the average price was $2.36 per gallon, up 1.1 cents from the previous week. The price in New Hampshire was unchanged from last week, at $2.28 per gallon.

Conservation experts in Maine are looking to bug the state's residents for the good of its forests. The Penobscot County Soil and Water Conservation District is asking the public to come out for a free program about invasive forest pests. Forest pests are species that jeopardize the health of the state's working forests and can do physical and economic damage to industries and natural areas.

Maine officials say a small team of archeologists has uncovered artifacts from 17th century forts at Colonial Pemaquid State Historic Site. The Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry says the archeologists' work at the site will continue until Friday. The site will be open to the public. They're doing their work at three forts located in midcoast Maine.

Maine's Republican governor is reassuring Canadian leaders that President Donald Trump "truly believes" in having free trade and they shouldn't read too much into what they hear. Gov. Paul LePage and other New England governors met with Eastern Canadian premiers Monday to discuss Canadian-U.S. trade relations, days after Trump threatened to abandon the North American Free Trade Agreement.

A Maine man who police say shot and killed a man outside of his house has pleaded not guilty to murder charges. Twenty-six-year-old Derrick Dupont was arraigned Monday afternoon at court in August. The Kennebec Journal reports Dupont has been charged with murder and manslaughter in the June death of 41-year-old James Haskell.

In a first, North Korea fired a ballistic missile that flew over Japan before plunging into the northern Pacific Ocean, an aggressive test-flight over a close U.S. ally that sends a clear message of defiance as Washington and Seoul conduct war games nearby. The launch site near North Korea's capital appeared to suggest a mobile method was used.

Homeowners suffering from Harvey flood damage are more likely to be on the hook for losses than victims of prior storms _ a potentially crushing blow to personal finances and neighborhoods along the Gulf Coast. Experts say far too few homeowners have flood insurance _ just two of ten living in Harvey's path of destruction. Families with flooded basements and soaked furniture will have to dig deep into their pockets or take on more debt to fix their homes.

A spokeswoman for a Houston hotel says one of its employees disappeared while helping about 100 guests and workers evacuate the building. Omni Hotel spokeswoman Kristen Candenhead said in an email Monday night that a team has been searching every available area of the Omni Houston that is safe to access but there has so far been no sign of the worker.

President Donald Trump is heading to two Texas cities for updates on the devastating flooding that has paralyzed the southeastern part of the state in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. The White House announced late Monday that the president and first lady Melania Trump will visit Corpus Christi, where they'll receive a briefing on relief efforts. The Trumps will then head to Austin for a tour of the Texas Department of Public Safety's Emergency Operations Center.

President Donald Trump's personal lawyer is acknowledging that the president's company considered building a Trump Tower in Moscow during the Republican primary, but the plan was abandoned "for a variety of business reasons." The attorney, Michael Cohen, disclosed the details Monday to the House intelligence committee. The committee is looking into potential Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. The statement was subsequently obtained by the AP. Cohen says he worked on the proposal with Felix Sater, a Russia-born associate who claimed to have deep connections in Moscow.

Harvey has already dumped 15 trillion gallons of water on southeast Texas, which is about three-quarters of a million gallons for every man, woman and child. It could be just a glimpse of the soggy future global warming could bring. Scientists say future storms in Texas and around the world will be wetter and wilder because of global warming. That's because warmer air holds more moisture, and warmer water provides fuel for hurricanes. While scientists can't yet say whether global warming made Harvey worse because they haven't done the complex calculations necessary, they can say that this is the type of storm they have been warning about for well over a decade.

President Donald Trump continues to insist Mexico will pay for his long-promised border wall. Trump says, "One way or the other Mexico will pay for the wall." He says the project may be funded by the United States, but "ultimately" Mexico will pay. Trump recently suggested he would force a federal government shutdown unless Congress provides funding for a wall. He said Monday that he hopes that is "not necessary." But he adds, "if it's necessary, we'll have to see." Trump was speaking at a news conference Monday with the president of Finland. Trump is also repeating his criticism of the North American Free Trade Agreement. The U.S., Mexico and Canada began formal negotiations on the pact earlier this month.
