The former Democrat-turned-Republican said Tuesday that she has worked on behalf of the governor to get the state's finances in order and to implement welfare reforms that are getting people back to work. She doesn't want to turn the clock back.
A municipal office building in Maine has reopened after officials say a disgruntled man slammed a cup full of bedbugs on the counter, releasing about 100 of the pests. Augusta officials told that Kennebec Journal that exterminators are confident all the bedbugs were killed before the City Center building opened Monday.
Authorities say five jail inmates apparently suffered overdoses at the Strafford County Jail and three of them have been hospitalized in serious condition. WMUR-TV reports the five inmates lived together in one section of the jail in Dover. Rescuers were called to the jail at about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. Some of the inmates were in their cells; others were in common areas. Dover Fire Chief Eric Hagman says jail staff had administered Narcan to inmates.
Federal fishing managers say studies are planned for an important New England scallop fishing area that's been a source of conflict in the fishery in recent months. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says it's facilitating survey work in the northern Gulf of Maine this summer. A person familiar with the situation says former FBI Director James Comey asked Attorney General Jeff Sessions to keep him from being alone with President Donald Trump. The person, who was not authorized to discuss the matter by name and spoke on condition of anonymity, says the request was made because of concerns Comey had about Trump. Comey is expected to testify before the Senate intelligence committee on Thursday about his encounters with Trump in the weeks before his May 9 firing.
Bill Cosby's chief accuser says she shot down the actor's casual advances twice before she found herself paralyzed and unable to fight him off the night she took pills that he said were herbal supplements. Andrea Constand emerged from 12 years of silence Tuesday to testify at Cosby's sexual assault trial. She will return to the witness stand Wednesday. Constand told jurors how her professional relationship with the Temple University trustee evolved into a friendship.
Relatives of Australian Sara Zelenak have confirmed she was killed in the London attacks over the weekend. The 21-year-old worked as a nanny in London and had previously been described as missing after the attacks Saturday night. Two of the seven victims killed were Australian.
