A Winslow woman and her dog were attacked by three dogs that got out of their fences yard.  According to centralmaine.com, she was injured trying to save her dog. The little dog died. The three pit bulls are in quarantine.

Two forums this week were looking at our communities, poverty and abuse issues.  According to centeralmaine.com, one event was Monday in Gardiner and the second was last night in Augusta.

Six Maine colleges made the Princeton Review and many were in the top ten in several categories. WCSH reports that 381 colleges were reviewed.

With school getting back in session, officials across the state are reminding driver to slow down in school zones. According to WGME, speeding fines double in school zones.

The Republican leader of the Maine House says national media coverage of Gov. Paul LePage's controversial remarks is a "punishment in and of itself." About 55 House Republicans gathered Tuesday night in August to figure out potential punishments for the GOP governor over his latest crisis, involving his racially charged comments about drug dealers.

The black bear population in northern New England is growing, and wildlife managers say this year's hunt for the animals is especially important to control it. The growing bear population has caused some confrontations between people and bears, especially during dry summers like this one.

A Texas scientist who ran tests on a large snake skin found in the Maine city of Westbrook says they came back as "100 percent from anaconda." A big snake caused a stir when it was seen earlier this summer eating a beaver along a riverbank. The discovery of a 10-foot snakeskin this month indicates it's still lurking locally.

Donald Trump is making a surprise move and is traveling to Mexico Wednesday, just hours before the Republican presidential nominee delivers a highly anticipated speech on immigration. Trump will meet with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto. Trump has been trying to clarify his stand on illegal immigration. He has longed called for deporting people currently living in the U.S. illegally and building a wall along the country's border with Mexico.

Residents on Hawaii's Big Island are stocking up on food and water as Hurricane Madeline approaches. The storm has lost strength, weakening from a Category 3 storm to a Category 2. Forecasters are expecting the storm to pass just south of the Big Island early Thursday.

At least 11 people are dead after a typhoon hit northern Japan Tuesday evening. The bodies of nine residents were found in a nursing home in the town of Iwaizumi in Iwate prefecture. Two more bodies were found in another town in Iwate.

The State Department says it's evaluating a video released by the Afghan Taliban showing a Canadian man and his American wife warning that their Afghan captors will kill them and their children unless the Kabul government ends its executions of Taliban prisoners. The video, which has not been independently verified by The Associated Press, shows Canadian Joshua Boyle and American Caitlan Coleman, who were kidnapped in Afghanistan in 2012.

North Korea has executed a vice premier and banished two other top officials to rural areas for re-education. That's according to South Korean officials. A spokesman for Seoul's Unification Ministry says the man executed was a vice premier on education affairs. In May, a former North Korean military chief, who Seoul said had been executed, was found to be alive and holding several new senior-level posts.
