Troye Sivan is famous on the Internet, but don't let the YouTuber thing give you the wrong impression about his music.

As a singer-songwriter, the 20-year-old star has continued to impress with his brand of atmospheric, mature synth-pop heavy on emotion, fittingly snuggly somewhere in between Lorde and BROODS. (There's something in the water down under, clearly.)

With features and songwriting assists from the likes of Alex Hope, BROODS, SLUMS, Jia Lih, Evermore's Dann Hume and fellow up-and-comers Allie X and Leland, WILD is the result of many in-studio (and at-home) collaborations, taking the young singer into new sonic territory since the days of "Happy Little Pill," from the chant-heavy title track, to the self-described "absolute darkest song" "DKLA" with rapper Tkay Maidza, to the warped future vibes of "Fools," vaguely bringing SOHN and Disclosure to mind.

Troye continues to refine his sound, coming into his own as a formidable player in the alternative pop scene....and beyond. (You might have heard him on Zedd's latest LP on the very good dance gem, "Papercut.")

But even as he makes his moves outside of the Internet, his endlessly loyal following has no doubt been instrumental in launching the superstar beyond the confines of YouTube: After establishing himself with last year's TRXYE EP, which peaked at #5 on the US Billboard 200 (no small feat!), his newest release WILD, released today (September 4), is on track to follow suit, rocketing straight to #1 on iTunes in 41 countries upon being made available for pre-order at the end of August.

We sat down with Troye to learn more about the making of WILD, the obscured EP artwork ("there's something about having my mug on my artwork that makes me a little bit uncomfortable," he reveals) and working with superstars including Jack Antonoff and Emile Haynie on forthcoming music.

And as for whether WILD is representative of a certain wild-child's makeover? "I'm not having a Miley moment...yet. Maybe in a year," he jokes. (Sure, Troye. We're watching you.)
