Could a return to Bon Temps, La. be happening soon?

The New York Post reports that a musical adaptation of HBO's supernatural series True Blood is in the early stages of development and is currently being workshopped by stage director Pam MacKinnon. Showrunner Alan Ball, who oversaw production on the TV series over its seven season run, is also being involved with the project.

Nathan Barr, who scored the TV series, is also reportedly writing the music for the adaptation, while author Elizabeth Scott is writing the lyrics. Several Broadway vets -- including Ellen Foley, Claybourne Elder, and Ann Harada -- are working with the production team.

The musical is reportedly far from being complete, as the first draft of Act I is a rumored 132 pages long.

True Blood ran on HBO between 2008 and concluded in 2014. Based on the novels in The Southern Vampire Mysteries series by Charlaine Harris, the show took place in the fictional town of Bon Temps where vampires and humans co-exist openly in the world. Vampires, with the aid of a synthetic blood, are able to exist without the need for human blood, and thus, can integrate within mainstream society. The series starred Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, Sam Trammell, and Alexander Skarsgård.
