29-year-old Justin Lebourdais wanted to get his wife a gift (he says). That's why he allegedly broke into a Morton Street Residence in Winthrop on December 19th. After Lebourdais' visit, the home was missing a handgun, jewelry, some electronics and a lime green t-shirt with the word "Gymnast" on it.

Also stolen were eight Build-A-Bear gift cards valued at $125, total.

Police contacted Build-A-Bear to see if any of the cards were used and were told it would take about a week to investigate.

On December 30th, it was determined that 4 of the cards were used, in conjunction with others, to order a bear online, which was sent to Lebourdais' wife.

While this investigation was going on, the same Morton Street home was broken into a second time. On this occasion, December 26th, coins and tools were taken.

A day after the second burglary, Winthrop Detective, Peter Struck, asked that trash from the apartment complex on Morton Street, at which Lebourdais lives, be brought to the police station.

Struck and another lucky officer, Paul Ferland, pawed through the garbage, finding a piece of paper with Build-A-Bear’s phone number on it. They also found six Build-A-Bear gift cards. Those cards matched those that had been stolen.

Struck also went to a local jewelery store to see if any of the stolen stuff had been brought in. The owner said Lebourdais had brought in coins the week before. He told the owner that they were at the bottom of a box he bought at a yard sale.

On January 1st, the jewelery store owner called Struck back saying that Lebourdais had come back in and sold her earrings for 12 bucks. He also asked her if he could borrow $28 because a car burglar had stolen his wife's purse. No red flags went up for the store owner previously because she trusted Lebourdais.

Police searched Lebourdais apartment and found stolen electronics admitted to taking everything but the gun.

Give it time, losers who think they're entitled to other people's stuff will get caught...they're just not that bright.

Lebourdais, who admitted to stealing everything but the gun, is charged with burglary and theft and is being held at the Kennebec County Jail.
