State Police have charged two Waterville women in connection with the stabbing of a third woman earlier this month in China.  According to Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland, troopers on Thursday charged Carrisa Butkewicz, 23, and Tiffany Glidden, 20, with aggravated attempted murder.  Both women were due in Augusta court Nov. 14.

The two women are charged in connection with the stabbing of 24-year-old Katherine Hopkins on Nov. 4, McCausland said.   She was stabbed in the stomach with a kitchen knife while sitting in her car on Fire Road 17, off the Neck Road. The two women had earlier texted Hopkins to meet them there, according to McCausland.  After the stabbing, Hopkins drove a short distance  and received medical attention for her stab wound from a nearby resident until an ambulance arrived. Her condition has improved since the incident.

Butkewicz and Glidden were sought by police for questioning after the stabbing and both turned themselves in, where they were being held on unrelated charges, said McCausland.
