UMF, a liberal arts college that enrolls about 1,800 full-time students, is also number 14 out of 400 nationally.

According to WashingtonMonthly.com, the rankings are based on the three most recent years of data.

Schools in the Northeast are the best value for your money based on "net" (not sticker) price, how well they do graduating the students they admit, and whether those students go on to earn at least enough to pay off their loans.

Other colleges in Maine in the top 100 are: Maine Maritime (20), College of the Atlantic (48), Colby College (55), University of Maine (93), Husson University (97).
