It's official. The University of Maine has hired Bob Walsh as the next Black Bear men's basketball coach. He comes from Rhode Island College, where he has been head coach for the past nine seasons.

UMaine issued a press release this morning (May 7) to announce the official hire.

"I am excited to welcome coach Bob Walsh to the Black Bear family," says UM athletic director Karlton Creech.

"I'm excited to begin the challenge of establishing a championship culture at the University of Maine as the leader of the men's basketball program," says Walsh.

He replaces Ted Woodward, whose contract was bought out.

Walsh will make $100,000 in the first year of a 4-year deal that will increase his salary by $5,000 in years two and three. In year four. there will be a $10,000 increase, bringing the annual salary to $120,000 in July of 2017.
