Michael Jerrier, 46, of Waterville has been changed with arson following a fire at his College Avenue apartment.

According to Maine Public Safety spokesperson Stephen McCausland, State Fire Marshal's office investigators say he set fire to his mattress late Saturday night.  The Waterville Fire Department quickly put out the fire and none of the 14 other tenants were injured.

Jerrier was taken to Maine General in Waterville for observation and, following his release from the hospital early Sunday morning, he was arrested and taken to the Kennebec County Jail.

According to McCausland, Jerrier has a history of self-inflicted burns.  McCausland said Fire Marshals investigated two incidents in 2016, where Jerrier allegedly burned himself with a cigarette lighter.
