As the new fall TV season gets underway, it started me thinking back to some old shows I miss. I’m not sure if everyone really wants a prime time lineup full of reality shows or it’s just the networks keeping expenses down in order to keep more revenue.

I like ‘Big Brother’, ‘American Idol’, ‘The Voice’, et al. but I do miss how TV used to be. From 8 pm to 10 pm it was back to back comedies and from 10 pm -11 pm was normally a drama of some sort.

There are a few scripted shows on TV now but not nearly as many as there used to be. I like ‘New Girl’, ‘The Mindy Project,’ I also like ‘Parenthood’ and ‘Blue Bloods’ but that’s about all I watch.

First up are a few of my favorite retired or cancelled comedies. ‘Night Court’ with Harry Anderson, he was funny and who could forget the character Bull? I was a huge fan of the second time around for ‘Newhart’ with my then TV crush the woman who played Stephanie. And, yes every time I’d see Larry, Darryl and Darryl I’d bust a gut. What a great show.

I really liked ‘Grace Under Fire.’ I should look up Brett Butler and see what’s going on with her today. Of course ‘WKRP in Cincinnati’ was my all time favorite. Dr. Johnny Fever was one of my inspirations. Another show you don’t see in repeats anymore is, ‘Wings’. Another one I loved was ‘Mad About You’. ‘M*A*S*H’ I didn’t like it as a kid, but I love it now. Sometimes you can catch ‘M*A*S*H’ on a retro channel.

Some of my favorite oldies from the drama category, ‘E.R.’, ‘Northern Exposure’, ‘NYPD Blue’, ‘St. Elsewhere’ and ‘Picket Fences’. I also loved 'X Files' but that can still be found on I believe Logo

What are a few your favorite retired or cancelled shows from the past?
