According to the National Weather Service, a winter weather advisory is in effect until 5 p.m. on Saturday (Dec. 23) as snow has begun to move into Central Maine.

The Weather Service forecast says that a "significant" snowfall is expected into Friday evening (Dec. 22).  The forecast stays messy for Dec. 23. "Another separate system will bring widespread mixed precipitation to the region on Saturday. Very cold surface temperatures combined with warmer air aloft may lead to a large area of freezing rain during the day Saturday. Hazardous travel conditions are expected again with this system," the National Weather Service said.

While Christmas Day looks OK for traveling, the Weather Service is forecasting a new snow storm for Christmas Day, making traveling tough again on Monday (Dec. 26).

According to WGME's Charlie Lopresti, icy conditions are expected throughout the day on Saturday.
