Winthrop Teen Accused of Killing Parents Remains in Custody
A 17-year-old Winthrop boy charged with killing his parents in their home is going to remain in custody.
A judge on Tuesday ordered a psychological examination for Andrew Balcer who's charged with two counts of murder. Documents detailing the crime were sealed.
Police say a 911 call early Monday led authorities to the bodies of Antonio and Alice Balcer in Winthrop.
A neighbor said she called for help after a woman came from the direction of the Balcer home, saying someone had a gun and she feared for her life.
The father was a Coast Guard veteran and the mother worked at Winthrop Veterinary Hospital.
The teen's name was released by his lawyer. He is charged as a juvenile, but prosecutors can seek to try him as an adult. —AUGUSTA, Maine (AP)
