Filming on 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' trucks along as director Bryan Singer releases more pics of returning franchise members and announces the latest additions to the cast -- and this latest update might send you running off in a twirl! It's just been announced that 'American Horror Story' star Evan Peters has just been cast in the role of -- wait for it -- Quicksilver. We wonder what Joss Whedon has to say about this...

confirmed the two characters are currently set to appear in '
The Avengers 2.' Now it looks like the Fox team has a similar idea as Singer announced the character has just been cast in 'X-Men: Days of Future Past':

Quicksilver is the son of 'X-Men' supervillain Magneto (played jointly by Michael Fassbender and Ian McKellen in 'Days of Future Past') and retains the ability of superspeed. It's interesting because both Marvel Studios/Disney and 20th Century Fox have the rights to use this character in movie form as he strays into both 'X-Men' (Fox-owned) and 'The Avengers' (Marvel-owned) territories. We can't help but wonder, considering Saoirse Ronan is reportedly the "prototype" for Whedon's Scarlet Witch character, if the 'Avengers' director will decide to look to Peters now for his Quicksilver. Or, since Whedon is still working on his script, will the character be cut completely from 'Avengers 2' along with Scarlet Witch?

'X-Men: Days of Future Past' is based on the comic story arch, which centers around Kitty Pryde as she travels back in time from an apocalyptic future to warn the X-Men of a life-altering attack on Senator Kelly. The film is set for a July 18, 2014 release and features an ever-expanding, star-studded cast of both new and returning stars.

Stay tuned for more updates as they're announced, but in the meantime what do you think Evan Peter's Quicksilver casting means for 'Days of Future Past' and, for that matter, 'The Avengers 2'? Sound off in the comments.
