After what seems like endless Instagram teasers, the final 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' trailer is finally here. Luckily, the film has dispensed with the teasing and this new trailer finally gives up the goods: lots of mutant superhero battles.

We'll admit to being a little, um, skeptical about 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' but this new trailer mostly wins us over. It's certainly more somber and dour than anything coming out of the Marvel universe, but at least it owns that much.

What really helps the cause here is the stellar cast assembled - from Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence to Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellan. If you're gonna go super serious with your superhero movie, you're gonna need a cast with the gravitas to pull it off, and at least 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' has that.

The trailer is very heavy on Magneto and the Sentinels, which is a good thing. They look like the strong points for the movie (even if Nimrod, the super Sentinel at the end, reminds us a LOT of The Destroyer from 'Thor'). But, it's also heavy on random mutants. We're still not sure how all these mutants can find their time within this one movie, but they've certainly made for an impressive little sizzle reel.

If the plot feels a little confusing, it's based on the classic 'Days of Future Past' comic event that follows the last remaining members of the X-Men living in an apocalyptic future where giant robots called Sentinels stalk the Earth and mutants are hunted down. In an act of desperation, Professor X sends Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) back in time to warn the X-Men of the moment that started it all — the assassination of Senator Kelly.

In addition to the new 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' trailer, you can get a look at the brand new poster for the film below.

'X-Men: Days of Future Past' opens in theaters on May 23.
