Don’t Worry You Guys, Rey Makes the Cut For Star Wars Pinball’s New Tables

We found Rey, you guys. She's here on this virtual pinball table from the upcoming Star Wars Pinball The Force Awakens add-on. Yes, that's right; starting next week, you'll be able to revisit your friends from the latest Star Wars feature --- including the movie's actual protagonist Rey, bizarrely absent from way too much Force Awakens merchandise --- all from the confines of you console/PC/tablet du jour. Provided you have these new Zen Studios pinball tables, that is.

As part of Zen Studios' plan to ensure it rules the digital pinball space in much the same way Williams and Stern once ruled the arcade, the developer has been pumping out licensed and original virtual machines through its Pinball FX and Zen Pinball franchises. We've seen more than a handful of Marvel and Star Wars tables before, as well as one based on Telltale's The Walking Dead, but this Force Awakens set will be the first based on an entirely new movie in the franchise since physical machines were still commonplace. Now you have to go out of your way to find an actual pinball machine, but when you can enjoy new tracks right from the comfort of your living room, there's little reason to worry about if your local establishment will get the latest tables.

The Force Awakens table is predominantly set on the desert planet of Jakku, but looks like there's a bit of Maz Kanata's Takodana palace in there, too. The interactive scenes appear to include some of the TIE Fighter/Millennium Falcon battle from the starship graveyard, and Kylo Ren can be seen menacing about in the screenshots. It doesn't look like much of the final act of the film will be included in either table, but given how tightly controlled those elements have been by Disney, it's not all that surprising.

The second table, The Might of the First Order, takes place primarily on the deck of the Finalizer, where Captain Phasma and some First Order Stormtroopers watch over the events. There's a bit of the opening segments featuring Poe's and Finn's escape from the landing bay, and you can see what appears to be the massive blaster ray from Starkiller Base off in the distance in a few of the screenshots. The big draw on this table is a "magnetic" upside-down ramp that puts you in control of the Star Destroyer itself.

Both tables will be made available PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Mac, Windows 10, Steam, iOS, Android, and Amazon devices beginning on Jan. 12. You will need either Star Wars Pinball, Zen Pinball or Pinball FX to play these new stages.
