It is safe to say we all learn a little differently. When it comes to education it is not a one size fits all scenario.  Some people, including myself prefer a hands-on experience to a conceptual book presentation. The options for education are many and varied.

One option you may not have considered is Job Corps. If you are not familiar with Job Corps, according to their national website, "Job Corps is the largest nationwide residential career training program in the country and has been operating for more than 50 years. The program helps eligible young people ages 16 through 24 complete their high school education, trains them for meaningful careers, and assists them with obtaining employment. Job Corps has trained and educated over two million individuals since 1964.

At Job Corps, students have access to room and board while they learn skills in specific training areas for up to three years. In addition to helping students complete their education, obtain career technical skills and gain employment, Job Corps also provides transitional support services, such as help finding employment, housing, child care, and transportation. Job Corps graduates either enter the workforce or an apprenticeship, go on to higher education, or join the military."

Jeff Sneddon, who is the Outreach and Admissions counselor for the Augusta area says they are currently enrolling youth 16-24 year old, who are interested in learning career training in areas such as automotive, welding, healthcare, electrical, culinary arts, among others, through free training. There is also virtual and online learning options available. Earn HSD/HSE and driver’s license at the same time, housing and meals included at no additional cost. Job placement is available once program is complete.
