Team USA Hockey Goalie Has UMaine ties
Former University of Maine goalie, Jimmy Howard (Detroit Red Wings), is wearing a new shade of blue these days, in the form of the USA Hockey's red, white and blue. Howard is one of three goalies representing the United States men's hockey team in Sochi, Russia. Howard is currently suiting up third behind 2010 Vancouver hero, Ryan Miller (Buffalo Sabres), and current stand out, Jonathan Quick (L
Buried by Avalanche, Bruins drop to 2-1
The Bruins suffered their first loss of the young 2013-2014 season, falling to the undefeated Colorado Avalanche, 2-0 on Oct. 10.
The scoring was unspectacular, with the Avalanche scoring a power play goal late in the first period and again towards the end of the third on a empty Bruin net...
Can Non-Parents Have An Opinion When It Comes To Parents And Kids?
OK, so I have to take a moment to vent my frustration about a situation that I find happening pretty commonly. The "You're not a parent, you wouldn't understand" phenomenon.
This situation stems from two different, yet tied together, Facebook conversations going on in my sphere...
Bruins Skate Past Red Wings, Improve to 2-0
The Boston Bruins beat the Detroit Red Wings in decisive fashion on Saturday night, skating past a solid Red Wings team to a score of 4-1.
Torey Krug started the scoring on the first power play of the night, shooting it past Detroit Goalie Jimmy Howard less than 30 seconds in to the power play...
UMaine Black Bears Tame Dalhousie Tigers, 5-1.
College hockey was back in action this weekend, with exhibition games taking place across the country. The University of Maine men started the season by hosting Dalhousie University of Nova Scotia. In a game that many Maine fans have anticipated since the firing of longtime coach Tim Whitehead, a 5-1 win was exactly what was asked for...
Bruins Open Season with Home Ice Victory
Game one is in the books and can be tallied in the win column, as the Boston Bruins defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning, 3-1 in regulation last night at the TD Garden.
It was a solid hockey game, showing many of my favorite aspects of hockey- including the announcers making a Mighty Ducks reference, which made me happy...
Remembering Ronan
You are either a dog person, or you are not. I was born into a family who has always had a love for these four legged creatures. I was two months old when my parents brought Murphy, a golden retriever, into our family. Since Murphy, we have had 4 golden's- 2 at a time since I was seven. Murphy, Jake, Tucky, Gradie and now Brody.
Alex Minsky’s New Gig
While perusing the headlines this morning, I came across an article on a Marine named Alex Minsky and it really made me think. Minsky is a 24-year old Marine who lost his leg to a roadside bomb in Afghanistan in 2009. His injury is pretty traumatic and his story is incredible. Lost leg, brain injury, 45-day coma- its pretty touching.
Superstitions in Sports- What Not To Do
I grew up playing sports and have developed some, well, lets just call them superstitions.
1. Never make/bring signs. The team with the most signs loses almost every time. Let the teams play speak for itself.
2. Never alter your winning routine...
Bruins’ Gregory Campbell is a House
Hockey players are a different breed of people. Not only do you have to be prepared for huge body checks and face down sharp skates and hard sticks, but you also have to be willing to throw your body in the way of sharply-hit frozen rubber pucks.
Walk Or Run For Boston Today
There is a movement on Facebook right now that is called "Run For Boston 4/17". The idea is for people to run, at some point today, in honor of those affected by the Boston Marathon bombing.
The rules are pretty simple.
1. Gather friends
2...
Whitehead Out As UMaine Hockey Coach
It is official. Sources have confirmed that the University of Maine hockey coach Tim Whitehead, has been fired.
Whitehead, who had one year left on his contract, lead the Maine Black Bears to a dismal 11-19-8 record this season. He had coached the team for the last 12 years, with mixed results...
I am a Maine Hockey Fan
I will always remember my first Maine hockey game- sitting there in wide-eyed astonishment as my friend Sarah explained the chants and the history of the Alfond and the UMaine hockey program. It was a day I will never forget- it helped shape my collegiate experience, as well influence the rest of my life...
The Bullying Epidemic
I think that it is safe to say that bullying has become an epidemic. With more and more people coming forward as victims of bullying and with the tragic increase of bullying-related suicide, this problem is being highlighted throughout the nation.
