It turns that Garfield, legendary comic strip cat, is a boy after all. “Garfield is male,” creator Jim Davis said to The Washington Post. Davis then added the non sequitur, “He has a girlfriend, Arlene," as if only people who are male have girlfriends. But putting that bit of heterosexism aside, how did we get to the point where this was a statement that needed making? It turns out that Jim Davis, presumably without meaning to, started that himself.

Georgia State Legislature has passed a law that would allow businesses owned by people with religious convictions to deny employment and services to LGBT people and anyone else who "violates their sincerely held religious beliefs." The Walt Disney Co. and its subsidiary Marvel Studios has joined other businesses in threatening to stop doing business in the state if Governor Nathan Deal does not veto the law, which is currently awaiting his signature.

But today on Twitter, Disney got everyone's attention by releasing the first promotional image from the new incarnation of Ducktales, which arrives on Disney XD in 2017. The image was first tweeted from the Twitter account of Disney D23, the official Disney fan club, and was then shared by other official Disney sources.
