Wrestling Goes Pink for the T.A.Y.L.O.R. Foundation

The Pine Tree Wrestling League Championships will be be held Saturday, March 29 at Cony High School in Augusta. This year the Winslow wrestling team is encouraging everybody to go pink!

In honor of the T.A.Y.L.O.R. Foundation, team members are encouraging all participants to wear some sort of pink and show their support for #TaylorStrong! As a matter of fact, they've even built a facebook page to encourage all schools to join in. Everyone has something pink in their house, right? Even if you don't, how about wearing a pink ribbon? Anything pink works! This goes for all spectators, as well!

The T.A.Y.L.O.R. Foundation (Thinking About Your Life On the Road) was developed using an acronym for Taylor Darveau's name. It is a non-profit organization developed by Corey and Christina Darveau after their daughter Taylor Darveau, age 15, was killed in a tragic car accident on October 3, 2013 in Bucksport, Maine. Taylor was a passenger in a vehicle driven by a 16 year old driver who was under an intermediate license (with a 9 month probationary period) who had only had her license for 2 months. Driver inexperience and speed were a factor when the driver lost control of her vehicle at high speed and struck a tree. The driver only received minor injuries while Taylor was fatally injured and lost her battle two hours later.

Taylor's parents developed the T.A.Y.L.O.R. Foundation in an effort to raise awareness and to educate the community about teen driving. To date, the T.A.Y.L.O.R. Foundation has developed the T.A.Y.L.O.R. decals, pink reflective decals that are designed to be used as a tool for parents of intermediate drivers to raise awareness. These decals have been dubbed "TAYLOR Tags" and they are placed on the passenger side top corner of the front and rear windows of whatever vehicle the teen intermediate driver will be driving. These decals raise awareness to the community that a teen driver on board is still within their intermediate probationary period (the decal has a month and year indicator of when their probationary period is complete). It is the Foundation's mission to continue to educate the community near and far about teen driving risks and consequences by speaking in driver's education classrooms and in high schools.
