Remember when someone you knew etched their name along with their young "forever love" in a tree, for example, GM + LB TLA? Maybe you did it, too.

Back in high school I know I did that on a big electrical box on the grounds. People have professed their love in many ways by placing their name with their boyfriend or girlfriend as far back as I know.

Recently, I saw for the first time a new way for couples to mark their love, by locking their names to a fence and throwing away the key. It seems like a new trend resurfacing after many generations, as I now know after reading, where love birds write their initials or names on a lock, then lock it to a fence near water and after locking, throwing the key in the river, harbor, lake or whatever water might be close. These locks are called, "Love Locks."

I’m honestly not sure if it is legal but it’s cute and refreshingly different. I wonder if my wife would want to participate.

In Auburn, some people have started this on a fence near The Hilton Garden along the River Walk.

Are there any other love lock fences in the Central Maine area? I assume there are? Would you do this as a way of showing love? Is this just for teenagers? Have you done it?
