We’re Getting Closer to the Opening of Buffalo Wild Wings in Augusta, Maine
Many Central Maine residents were upset by the 2023 closing of Amato's on Western Avenue in Augusta.
The regional Italian chain was a great option for families. Not only was it quick and affordable, it had a variety of offerings. Dad could have an Italian sub, mom could have a calzone, and the kids could split a small pizza. Everyone got what they wanted.
Fortunately, there are dozens of other Amato's locations throughout New England. You can find a location near you on the chain's website.
The building, located at 34 Western Avenue in Augusta, sat vacant for months following the closure of the eatery.
Then, in May of 2024, we started to see activity around the building. The old rooftop facade came down, the building was painted, and it appeared there was some sewer work going on near the building.
We started hearing rumors around town that the old Amato's building was going to be turned into a Buffalo Wild Wings. At first, this did not make sense to us. After all, that building is tiny. Eventually, it became clear that if it was going to be a B-Dubs it was going to be one of the new Buffalo Wild Wings Go locations. Basically, a take-out-only restaurant.
A newer concept, Buffalo Wild Wings Go locations are meant for people who want to run in, grab some wings, and go home to watch the game. Many, if not all, Buffalo Wild Wings Go locations offer delivery. Get details from the BWW Go website.
Even though we love the idea of going to Buffalo Wild Wings to have a beer, eat some wings, and watch the game, we completely understand that this is the only B-Dubs concept that works with a space that size.
In the six months since we first heard those rumors, we have seen work being done on the building, but it was going very slowly. We kind of assumed that the business, whatever it was going to be, would have been open by late summer.
If you have driven past the building in the last few days, it is obvious that some progress has been made on the project. It is also very obvious, because of the signage, that the place is going to be a Buffalo Wild Wings.
Yeah, we couldn't be more excited!
When does it open? Well, we're not sure.
No announcement has been made and, as of November 27th, there is no listing for this location on the BWW website. However, a Google search for 'Buffalo Wild Wings Augusta Maine' brings up a list that includes the address of the new location. When you click on it, though, it tells you the location is not found.
