Indiana Man Charged After 5-Year-Old Dies In Maine Crash

According to an article on the WGME website, an Indiana man is facing multiple charges, including manslaughter and operating under the influence, after a crash in Hancock County that killed a 5-year-old boy.

Dion Campbell, 33, was arrested Monday following the June 25 crash at the intersection of Route 9 and Route 193 in TWP 22, according to a representative from the Maine State Police.

Troopers say they responded to the crash just before 11:30 PM and found a 5-year-old boy in the front passenger seat. Despite life-saving efforts, the child was pronounced dead at the scene.

Campbell and a 10-month-old girl were taken to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Police say Campbell is the uncle and adoptive father of both children.

Investigators say the vehicle appears to have failed to stop at a stop sign before crashing into an embankment. Troopers also say neither child was properly restrained.

Campbell is charged with manslaughter, criminal OUI, endangering the welfare of a child, and aggravated driving to endanger. He is being held without bail at the Hancock County Jail.
