Just a few decades ago, Halloween in most towns consisted of kids going trick-or-treating.

When they were really young, their parents would lead them from house to house.  As they got older, they'd go off in groups of siblings and friends.  Schools might throw a Halloween party or dance, but that was about it.

In the 2020s, Halloween is a lot different.  For the most part, at least in Maine, old-school trick-or-treating has been largely replaced by trunk-or-treats and Halloween festivals.

For the better part of a decade, Augusta has hosted Trick-or-Treat on Water Street.  During the evening-long event, the main street through downtown Augusta is closed to vehicle traffic, and the street is lined with vendors giving away candy and other treats.  Thousands of people attend the event, which seems to get bigger each year.

Now, Waterville plans to host a similar event.
