Maine Motorcyclist, Pursued by Police, Dies When He Collides With a Sewage Truck
Police have released details about a fatal motorcycle crash that happened in Western Maine on Monday.
According to an article on the WMTW website, 42-year-old Thomas Welch, of Porter, was killed when he collided with a tractor-trailer that was hauling sewage from the Fryeburg Fair.
The article explains that at about 10 AM on Monday, a deputy from the Oxford County Sheriff's Office was engaged in a high-speed chase with a Honda Goldwing motorcycle on Sweden Road/Route 93 in Waterford. The pursuit continued onto Waterford Road.
Near the intersection of Waterford Road and Haskell Hill Road, the motorcycle crossed the center line of the roadway and crashed head-on into a tractor-trailer that was traveling north.
The deputy and passersby attempted to perform first-aid on Welch, but he passed away at the scene.
While the truck was rendered undrivable, the driver of the truck was not injured in the incident. The article also explains that there was no environmental threat from the truck's cargo.

The investigation into the crash continues and authorities have not released the reason for the pursuit.
