According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety, a man has been arrested for allegedly causing the death of an infant.

The incident started on June 15th, 2024 when authorities were called to a Biddeford residence.

The press release says, in part:

the Biddeford Fire and Police Departments were dispatched to 37 Emery Street for an unresponsive 1 month old boy. The baby was transported to Southern Maine Hospital in Biddeford and later transferred to the Maine Medical Center. Due to the age of the baby and is standard protocol, the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit South were called into assist the Biddeford Police Department. On Thursday, June 20, 2024, the baby died. An autopsy was conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta on Friday, June 21, 2024. Cause and Manner of death are being withheld at this time.

After an investigation that lasted over a year, an arrest has been made.

On Tuesday evening, investigators from the Maine State Police Major Crimes unit arrested 36-year-old Christopher Knapp, of Biddeford.  He was taken into custody on a warrant charging him with manslaughter.

On October 7, 2025, the York County Grand Jury indicted Knapp on the manslaughter charge. He was taken to the York County Jail, arraigned two days later, and entered a not guilty plea. He remains at the York County Jail with bail set at $175,000 cash.
