The Next Season of Netflix’s “Monster” Will Explore Massachusetts’ Most Famous Murder
Producer Ryan Murphy has been responsible for some of the most well known, and shocking, shows of the 2000s.
He is the creator of Nip/Tuck, Glee, and American Horror Story, to name just a few.
His shows have a habit of stirring up conversation and Monster is no exception.
The series, which covers one particular crime or killer(s) in each season, is currently in its third season. The first was all about the shocking story of cannibal Jeffrey Dahmer, the second season covered the Menendez Brothers, and season 3 is all about Wisconsin killer Ed Gein.
Thanks to an article on the WGME website we now know who season 4 will cover. This one hits really close to home for a lot of us.
Monster Season 4 Will Be About Lizzie Borden
The article explains that the new season will be about Lizzie Borden's alleged killing of her father and stepmother in Fall River, Massachusetts in 1892.
A post from Netflix says, in part:
You've met Ed Gein, now meet Lizzie Borden. Ella Beatty will play one of history’s most notorious women in the fourth installment of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s MONSTER.
The season will feature Ella Beatty as Lizzie. Charlie Hunnam, Vicky Krieps, Rebecca Hall, Billie Lourd and Jessica Barden will also be in the new season.
While we do know the new season is in production we do not know when it will hit Netflix.
The Story of Lizzie Borden
According to Britannica, on the morning of Thursday, August 4, 1892, Mr. Borden left home to take care of business. Inside the house were his wife, their maid Bridget Sullivan, and his daughter Lizzie. While Lizzie’s sister, Emma, lived in the home, she was away.
When Mr. Borden came home, he lay down on the couch for a nap. Around 11:15 that morning, Lizzie said she found her father dead, struck in the head again and again with a sharp object.
Upstairs, her stepmother’s body was found too. She had been killed even more violently, and investigators believed she died about an hour before her husband.
It later came out that Lizzie had tried to buy poison the day before. Not long after, someone claimed she burned one of her dresses in the stove.
No murder weapon was ever confirmed, though a hatchet found in the basement raised plenty of suspicion.
In 1893, Lizzie Borden was put on trial for the murders, but was acquitted.
