New England has a rich ski history.

The first real ski school in the United States was located in the Mount Washington Valley of New Hampshire, New England states has been home to many Olympic-level skiers, and the region is home to some of the most well known ski resorts.

One of those iconic ski resorts is Sunday River.

Located in the Maine town of Newry, the ski area first opened in December of 1959.  Since then, the resort has welcomed millions of skiers and boarders from all over the world.  The resort offers some of the best skiing and riding this side of the Mississippi River.

As a resort, it offers so much more than just skiing and boarding.  There's lodging on-site, some phenomenal dining options, and guests can party with some of the region's best bands and DJs.

Speaking of which, Sunday River has one of the coolest bars in Maine.  Literally!

 

The Iglu at Maine's Sunday River

Located at the base of the mountain, The Iglu is an actual igloo that has been turned into a bar.
