Why is Maine Ranked Among the Least Fun States in the US?
Most people think they're hometown is boring...
But the whole state? Probably not. In fact, here in Maine, I always thought we took it as quite a point of pride that we were a pretty special place to visit. Sure, you didn't like growing up in a small town. But you probably knew somewhere deep inside, that we live in a cool state, with seemingly plenty to do.

Culturally in Maine, we hunt, we fish, we ski, we ride our extensive trail system... We also compete at the national level constantly with the quality of restaurants in Maine. I suppose we don't have the night life of New York City, or Las Vegas or something, but we're not some dud, sitting around being boring either.
So how is Maine ranked among the least fun states in the US?
Well, according to WalletHub.com, there are a few reasons. The two biggest criteria they seemed to base this on, are "entertainment and recreation" and "nightlife". Of course, there were many subcategories within that. But essentially, we score low on all those things. I find their findings, completely bogus.
Ok, they're right. You're not going to find a bar in Maine that stays open super late. However, you will find amazing beaches, gorgeous lakes, ponds, and rivers... The ocean views and coastline here in Maine are astounding. But also on the list were movie theaters? Like, people still go to the movies?
Were there states worse than us?
Yes, in fact we're only the 38th least fun state in the country. New England in general got beaten up pretty hard. New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island, and Connecticut all placed lower than us. Massachusetts did ok, but they have Boston. So basically this survey implies you need a big city to be fun.

As is typical, I'm going to assume that these folks who did this have never been to Maine before. I'm surprised they even know we're a state. But we Mainers know, there's plenty of fun to be had here. Unless you're fun is just typical city-slicker crap we don't care about anyway. Maine rules.
