Both the Maine State Police and the Waldo County Sheriff's Deputies were on the scene when they determined the individual involved in the crash had perished.

"The initial investigation revealed the crash involved a 2006 Saab 9-2X which was driven by Paul Raye Jr. (age 18) of Detroit, Maine. Mr. Raye failed to navigate a curve in the roadway and ended up running off the roadway and striking a large tree. Mr. Raye died at the scene as a result of the impact."

Authorities say they believe speed to be a contributing factor to the accident but are still investigating the crash.
